Carroll, Raymond Albert 79, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away at his Evanston home on January 16, 2013 of cancer, with his beloved wife at his side. He was born May 3, 1933 in Joliet, IL and was preceded in death by his parents, Howard A. Carroll and Elsie Holman Carroll of Joliet, IL, his brother Howard Carroll Jr., and sisters, Lois Filas and Marilyn (Robert) Suffern. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kay (Johnston) Carroll; sister, Joyce (Larry) Hollatz of New Lenox, IL; daughters, Kristen (John) Burns of CT, Julie (Jeff) Irving of Evanston, IL, and son, Kevin (Nancy) Carroll of Seattle, WA, and 8 grandchildren, Timothy, Nicholas, Grace, Madeline and Noah Burns, Maggie and Nolan Irving and Mina Carroll. He will be greatly missed by Joe and Bea (Johnston) Nelligan, Robert Suffern, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Ray grew up in Joliet, IL. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy. During his career as a pharmacist and businessman he owned and operated Carroll's Pharmacy in North Aurora, IL, and Warrenville Drugs in Warrenville, IL. He was a member of the local Elks Club and the Lions Club, where he served as President for 2 years. Ray and Mary Kay were married in 1963. They started their family in Palos Heights, IL and then moved to Aurora, IL, where they lived from 1969-1992. They were active members of Holy Angels Parish, and many community, cultural, social, and volunteer organizations. Ray and Mary Kay later lived in Sequim, WA, Danbury and New Fairfield, CT, and Evanston, IL, and spent winters in Green Valley, AZ. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a caring, honest, and intelligent man, and a dedicated pharmacist. He loved reading, sailing, golf, tennis, bridge, fishing, and vacationing, and enjoyed many years at the family vacation home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A memorial service is planned -TBA at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Unity Hospice of Chicagoland, 700 S.
