Clark Jr., Joseph Richard 63, passed away at his home in Eagle River, AK on December 7, 2013. A service was held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 16300 Domain Lane in Eagle River on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Father Tom Brundage was the officiant. Honorary pallbearers include Martin Patterson, Ron Leventry and Al Mills, pallbearers include Matthew Patterson, Shane Wingenbach, Duane Leventry, Mark Horman, John Dean and Darrel Hester. A celebration of life followed the service at the American Legion Post 33, 21426 Old Glenn Hwy in Peters Creek, Alaska. Joseph will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, IL. Joseph was born on February 13, 1950 to Joseph R. Clark Sr. and Gwendolyn Clark. He was a graduate of West Aurora High School and joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1968. He was a Vietnam War veteran and received a Vietnam campaign medal, combat action ribbon, Navy commendation medal and rifle marksman badge before leaving the Corp. in 1971. Joseph owned Illinois Overdoors in Illinois from 1975 until 1980. He became an Alaskan resident in 1982 where he began working at Northwest door. From 1984 until his death he was president of Pioneer Door Inc. He received the Small Businessman of the Year award from the State of Alaska in 1992 and was President of Knik Little League in 1991. His favorite hobbies included spending time with his family and friends, collecting firearms and war memorabilia, fishing, traveling, horse racing and spending time at his home in Las Vegas, NV. Joseph was also affiliated with VFW, American Legion, NRA and Elk's Club (BPOE). His family wrote: "He was a passionate, generous and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, who spent his time striving to help and improve the quality of life of everyone around him. He cherished his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. He will be best remembered by family and friends for his strong work ethic, great sense of humor and overall generosity." He is survived by his wife, Christine Clark; daughters, Kari Wingenbach (Shane), Kelly Clark, Kristie Clark and Stephanie Clark and her six children; his son, Joseph Clark; his sisters, Linda Rhea (Jerry) and Susan Baert (Robert); his half-brother, Conrad Clark; grandsons, Rylan Scearce,and Jacob Clark; and granddaughters, Alexia Leventry, and JayLynne, Shayna and Alexis Wingenbach. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. Clark, Sr.; his mother, Gwendolyn Clark; brother, Jeffery Clark; and many aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, vfwstatehq@mtaonline.net, and Children's Lunchbox, 7041 Debarr Rd, Anchorage. Arrangements are with Janssen Funeral Homes. A graveside service will take place Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Paul Pinner officiating. A celebration of life to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Fireside Grille in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
