Jireh Allen Bishop Obituary
Bishop, Jireh Allen "Jerry" Jireh (Jerry) Allen Bishop will be laid to eternal rest at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29th, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421. Funeral and prayer services will be conducted at the cemetery. Jerry took great pride in his service to our country and will be honored with Military Funeral Honors at exactly 2:30 p.m., at the cemetery. Born March 28, 1973 in Aurora, the son of John S. Bishop and Connie (Green) Bishop (deceased), he passed into eternal life on Wednesday, April. 23, 2014, at Edward Hines, Jr VA Hospital, in Hines, IL. Lifted up by the love and prayers of his family, Jerry now claims the promise of our Lord. Jerry grew up in Aurora and attended local schools. He began work as a roofer while in high school and shortly thereafter joined the Navy. He was stationed on the U.S.S. John C. Stennis (CVN 74) aircraft carrier. It was there he enjoyed the camaraderie of his military brethren and took great pride in his loyalty and respect for our nation's servicemen. He worked at Burgess Norton (Geneva, IL) and Illinois Auto Electric (Aurora, IL). He always helped others in need whenever possible and had a big heart. During the last couple years, he struggled mightily with a multitude of disabling health issues and challenges, took solace in his faithful canine companion Gunner, and our Lord has granted relief and taken Jerry into his care. Jerry now leaves his parents, John and Theresa Bishop; two siblings, Jeff (Erica) Bishop of Plano and John Bishop, Jr. of Aurora, and two half-siblings, Jamie and James. He also leaves many loving other family members and friends. Directions to the national cemetery: Take Exit 245 (near Joliet Arsenal) off Interstate 55, travel east on Arsenal Rd. approximately 8 miles. Turn right on Rt 53 South for 2 miles. Turn right on Hoff Rd. Cemetery entrance will be on the left. Attendees should gather at the "All Funerals" area.
