William Thompson

Thompson, William A. 75, of Big Rock, Illinois, passed away Wednesday June 5, 2013 at home. He was born December 30, 1937 in Red Lion, Pennsylvania to Wilton and Marion (Berg) Thompson. William married Karen R. Leader on June 11, 1960 in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. William graduated from Penn State University in 1959 and worked in the medical insurance field for 52 years before retiring in 2012. He was an active member of the English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock and a member of their choir. He enjoyed singing in church choirs all of his life. He was also a member of the Big Rock Lions Club for many years. William was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his sons, grandsons and friends. He is survived by his wife, Karen of Big Rock; sons, Philip (Steffane) Thompson of Rockford and David Thompson of Hinckley; grandsons, Andrew and Henry Thompson of Aurora; sisters, Susan (Bill) Grim and Alice Ward of Red Lion, PA. William was preceded in death by both parents. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15 at the English Congregational United Church of Christ, 301 Rhodes Avenue in Big Rock with the Rev. Bill K. Riegle officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Endowment Fund at English Congregational United Church of Christ, 301 Rhodes Ave, Big Rock, IL 60511.
