Robert Babos

Babos, Robert Jules 88, of Aurora, Illinois passed away Saturday afternoon, May 3rd, 2014 at Jennings Terrace in Aurora, IL. He was born January 2nd, 1926 in Aurora, IL to Benedict and Agnes (Toth) Babos. He married Marilyn J. Bellon on May 6th, 1950 in Aurora, IL. Robert is survived by his children, Kathy (Byron) Saum, Suzanne (Daniel) Amoni, Timothy (Cathy) Babos and Steven Babos all of Aurora, IL; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Justin Saum, Colleen (Jason) Long, Christine (Chad) Wheeler, Eileen and Ethan Amoni, Melissa and Michael Babos; his six great-grandchildren, Addison and Tyler Long and Caden, Colton, Carter and Carrigan Wheeler; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepmother, Irene Babos; his wife, Marilyn; his brother, George Babos; his sister-in-law, Josephine Babos, and his daughter, Patricia Babos. Robert proudly served with the United States Marines, 26th Battalion, 5th Division, as a machine gun crewman spending 26 days on Iwo Jima. Robert was both a meat cutter and a master sausage maker. He owned two businesses: "Dean's" meat market in Waterman, IL and "The Old Country Store" on Jericho Road in Aurora, IL. He was a lifelong member of the Aurora Moose Lodge #400 and the VFW. Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Robert enjoyed sausage making as both a vocation and an avocation making his great "garlic bacon", smoked ribs and assorted sausages for his family well into retirement. He loved to travel and backpacked through four countries in Europe with a daughter and son in law in 1978 seeking out his extended family in Hungary for the first time. He enjoyed family trips with all of his children. "You were one tough soldier through it all; time to rest in peace". A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 12th, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Riverside Cemetery located on South River Street approximately 1/4 mile South of Ashland Avenue in Montgomery, IL. Following the graveside service, the family will be receiving guests at 2460 Coach and Surrey Lane, Aurora, IL 60506. Memorials may be sent to the Babos Family, 2460 Coach and Surrey Lane, Aurora, IL 60506 or made to the organization of the donor's choice in the name of Robert J. Babos.
