Paul J. Linden

Linden, Paul J. World War II Veteran, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 in Aurora, IL. He was born September 8, 1923 in Aurora, Illinois. He was a member of Annunciation Church for most of his life and ushered there for many years. Paul was in the Air Force and served in the Pacific theatre of operations with the 73rd Bomb Wing based on Saipan in the Marianna Islands. For his service he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart Presidential Unit Citations, plus other awards. On July 22, 2011, at DuPage Airport, he was given a medallion for the Medal of Honor Society by Colonel Harvey Barnum, himself a recipient of the Medal of Honor and survivor of the Vietnam conflict. Paul had several hobbies and interests, particularly woodworking. He designed and built a number of items for the Air Classics Museum of Aviation based at the Aurora Airport. Paul was a life member of the Batavia V.F.W. Post 1197, as well as the Air Classics Museum. He was part of the Vets Breakfast Group that met on Thursday mornings at Grandma's Table in Montgomery. He was also an active member of the 73rd Bomb Wing Association, and looked forward to the annual reunion in May. After Paul's retirement from Fermilab, he and his wife Jane took several trips to various places around the world, including the Marianna Islands and Iwo Jima. Our father was a good husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his two children, Patricia Seifrid of Batavia and Lawrence (Vicki) Linden of Elburn; six grandchildren, Scott Seifrid, Kimberly (Mike) Riordan, Mindy Seifrid, Michael (Kayla) Linden, Mathew (Monica) Linden and Michele (Kyle) Breyne; and eight great-grandchildren, Jamie Bigert, Jacob and Jennifer Linden, Madelayne and Katelyn Linden, and Linden, Adriana and Brooke Breyne. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 63 years, Jane F. Linden in 2009; his parents, Peter and Mary (Lorenz) Linden; his brothers, Jerome and Robert; and his sisters, Kathryn and Joan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY at 9:30 AM to Annunciation Church at 10:00 AM. Fr. Joel Rippinger, O.S.B. will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery.
