Monokoski, Stanley A. "Gibby" 63, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington. He was born October 11, 1950 in Chicago the son of the late Stanley and Helene (Washko) Monokoski. Gibby graduated from Northern Illinois University with his BA and MA in Music and did his PhD work at Northwestern University
. He was a Professor of Music at Waubonsee Community College where he taught Music Theory, Composition, Music Literature and Jazz Piano, while coordinating the music performance program for over 39 years. Among his honors, he received the Teacher of the Year Award among all Illinois community colleges in 1987. He served as President of the Fox Valley Symphony for several years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame. In addition he received the Fox Valley Orchestra's first ever Champion of the Arts award in 2013 for his dedication to the arts and arts education in the Fox Valley. He was well loved by his students and colleagues. Gibby is survived by his loving wife, Susan Rogaliner of Geneva; his stepdaughter, Amy Rogaliner of Chicago; his sisters, Dolores (Jack) Nelson of Palos Park, IL, Carole Drust of Marietta, GA, Beverly (Edwin) Lezaj of Flowery Branch, GA and Linda (Michael) Ruberto of Clearwater, FL; and his many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday 1:00-5:00 p.m. April 13, 2014 at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
