Barton, Mary Ruth Odell Mother and mentor, passed away on March 30, 2013, after a full life of 96 years. Born in Peoria IL, she was raised in St. Paul, MN, where she graduated from the University of MN, a history major and member of the mortar board. She married Roger Wesley Barton, a classmate, in '41. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted as an officer in the Navy. The newlyweds were fortunate to be based in Trinidad together where he was involved in electronics work. After the war, the couple settled in Aurora, where Roger began his international business career with Stephens-Adamson, and their family grew. The Bartons moved to Ithaca, NY in 1971. Roger developed international business for the Morse Chain Division of Borg Warner until his retirement. Mary Ruth was an active member of the League of Women Voters, and in Illinois statewide politics. She maintained all her life an engagement with history, current events and family genealogy. She loved the outdoors and spent most summers in the family cabin on Lake Superior, which she expanded and shared with growing family. In 1997, Mary Ruth, now a widow, moved from Ithaca to her brother's home in LaJolla, CA. She could be found most mornings striding with rescued dogs on leash around the park. Our Mom leaves behind a legacy of elegance, talent and faith. Her six children as well as thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren survive her. A memorial service will be held at the LaJolla, CA Presbyterian Church at 2PM on April 16, 2013. Her ashes will be interred next to her husband at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, 10AM on April 26th.
