Unteed, Kenneth Eugene Died at home Tuesday, August 27, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born in Rock Island, IL to Otto H. and Hilda R. Unteed in 1925. As a young child he moved with his family to Aurora. He attended West Aurora High School where he played clarinet in his brother's dance band and earned his Eagle Scout badge. He was drafted into the army and served 2 years in Germany in the battle of the bulge. Upon discharge he briefly attended Aurora University, then entered the University of Illinois
School of Architecture in Champaign. In 1950 he was married to Rosemary Fulton with whom he had 3 children, Carol (Tracy) Wood of Dallas, TX, Barbara (Chris) Melby of Ft. Collins, CO, and Jim (Vicki) Unteed of Carlsbad, CA. Ken practiced architecture in the Champaign area and later formed his own architectural firm with offices in both Champaign and in the Chicago area. He and his partners primarily focused on the design of new school facilities and the additions to and modernization of existing schools. They did extensive work for the University of Illinois in Champaign as well as school districts in West Aurora, Oswego, St. Charles and throughout the state. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, various community organizations in both Aurora and Champaign, and the Delta Tau Delta alumnae Association. In 1975 he was married to Susan Buttrey and moved back to Aurora. His wife, Sue, his 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 stepchildren and their families survive Ken. His parents and his brother, Donald, preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, August 30 at the Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 31 at Lincoln Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jeff Moore.
