Janis "John" Grigalis Jr.

Grigalis Jr., Janis "John" 81, of Yorkville, Illinois entered into eternal rest on May 6, 2014 at the Seasons Hospice in Melrose Park. He was the son of Janis and Lidija Milmanis Grigalis and was born March 28, 1933 in Riga, Latvia. He immigrated to America with his mother and brother in 1950, where they settled at Dr. Falk's Farm in Edgerton, Wisconsin. John served with the U.S. Army in Germany and was a member of the American Legion Post #489 in Yorkville. He was associated with Aurora Seal Masters for 43 years until retirement. John was a member of Zion Latvian Lutheran Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie White Grigalis; a nephew, Robert Grigalis; and a niece, Delilah Shostak. Survivors include his brother, Zigurds Edgars Grigalis (wife, Nancye) of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Marvin Peters of Princeton; stepson, Barry Lee (wife, Cindy) of Kankakee; step-granddaughters, Victoria Lee, Kankakee and Megan Rutter (husband, Ryan) of Hudson; step-great-grandson, Jackson Rutter; nephews, Edgar Grigalis, Keller, Texas, Zigy and Steve Grigalis, Lexington, KY; stepnephews, John Erwin, Ashburn, VA and Jeff Erwin, Sarasota Springs, NY; and a stepniece, Nancye C. Erwin, Richmond, KY. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Amelitta Grigalis, Lexington, KY; and very close lifetime friends, Vera and Don Jarman of Lee, IL; and several great-nephews and nieces and cousins. Visitation will be held at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway Road, Montgomery, IL on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. Funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Pallbearers will be Dave Hastard, Tom Wick, Bryan Peters, Matias Escalante, Edgar, Zigy and Steve Grigalis. Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Peters and Don Jarman.
