Astor Carlson

Carlson, Astor Robert 93, of North Aurora, passed away June 23, 2013 at Countryside Care Centre in Aurora. He was born January 2, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Eric and Freda (nee Wrang) Carlson. Astor enlisted into the United States Marine Corps directly after graduating from High School. He had an accomplished career in the Marine Corps for over 35 years before he retired. Although Astor was a quiet man regarding his military time, it was known he was on the grounds in Pearl Harbor during the invasion. Following his retirement he worked for the Army Reserves coordinating new recruits and arranging for where and when they would enter for their training. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, gardening or working in his yard. He is survived by his three children, Gary Eric (Thelma) Carlson of Pennsylvania, Scott Robert Carlson of Aurora, IL, and Carla (Gregory) Miller of North Aurora, IL; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Anne (nee Wriston) and a brother, Arthur Carlson. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Morning Star Community Church 8S101 Barnes Road Aurora, IL. Rev. Jim Behrens will officiate.
