Arnold J. Bitterman

Bitterman, Arnold J. Age 76, of Yorkville, IL passed away, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with illness, on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born on July 2, 1936 in Aurora, IL, the son of Frank and Angela (Kohley) Bitterman. Arnold was united in marriage on August 31, 1957 to the former Miss Beverly A. Corniels and they spent the next 55 happy years together. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and East Aurora High School, both in Aurora, IL. Mr. Bitterman served his country proudly, enlisting with the United States Marine Corps in 1953 during the Korean War. Throughout his life, he was a staunch supporter of veterans and played an active role within the veteran community. His past service includes commander of the VFW Post #8234, the Kendall County American Legion and the Forty and Eight. He was a proud lifetime member of both, the American Legion Post #489, the Forty and Eight as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Kendall County Torch of Liberty Post #8234 and the Military Order of the Cootie Pup Tent 82. Arnie was a pipefitter and welder and a member of Local 501 Plumbers and Pipefitters. After retirement, he used his talents and passion to further advocate for his fellow veterans. Arnold was the founder and the first Superintendent of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County. Arnie was an avid sportsman and fisherman who enjoyed many hobbies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Arnold is survived by his wife, Beverly Bitterman of Yorkville, IL; his daughters, Kimberly (Lathan) Allred of Millington, IL and Stacey (David) Earnest of Naperville, IL; his grandchildren, Nichole, Joseph, Megan, Sean, Tiffani, Laura, Maggie and Haley; his seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy LeCuyer of Yorkville, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Angela Bitterman; his daughter, Monica Haggerty; his son, Arnold J. Bitterman, Jr.; his brother, Frank Bitterman, Jr.; his sisters, Evelyn Haley, Shirley Gutierrez, Rita Pinks and Lorraine Thibault. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Cross Lutheran Church, 8609 Rt. 47 in Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in the Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Yorkville, IL.
